The Scent of a Woman: Yes Fellas! Women smell better when they are ovulating!! It’s the magic of baby making hormones that make females irresistible!
“Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again! (Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet (Act 1 Scene 5).
Fellas! Ever notice a woman smells sweeter? They do! A woman’s scent changes as her hormones change over the course of her monthly menstrual cycle. Researchers determined that although women do not have very obvious outward signs that display they are fertile, there are subtle signs and cues that men pick up on and react to when a woman is nearing ovulation. According to Miller and Manor, when men sniffed the tshirts of women who were in the high estrogen phase of their cycle and approaching the high follicular phase of their cycle (ovulation) and asked how they believed how the women were feeling at the time and asked to rate the level of sexual arousal, men rated the women as more sexually aroused than those who were not in the fertile phase of their cycle.
Other discoveries that Researchers made when men were exposed to the scent of fertile females:
According to various studies done on courtship, it also appears that these behaviors that men exhibit in response to a woman’s scent while ovulating are also the beginning of courtship and romantic love. According to Fischer, the start of a romance begins with sex and sexual desire. In the beginning months of the romance when courtship behavior is at its strongest, both males and females report “A drive for sexual exclusivity and feelings of jealousy if they suspect infidelity in their romantic partner” (100). Also in the beginning upon first meeting, many of the actions expressed by females such as the “Coy glance “ (Moore 173), smiling, and other nonverbal behaviors that initiate the mating behaviors in males are most likely found during the high fertility time of the cycle when estrogen levels are high and her scent is more pleasant. Experts believe these reactions to a woman’s hormones and the reaction to her scent which trigger mating and ultimately pair bonding go back the “Ancestral mating season”. Ahh, the allure of the sweet, sweet scent of a woman!!
